Environmental Principles

A Statement of Environmental Principles WHEREAS, the ancient fact of man's intervention in his natural environment has placed a responsibility on us to assure the continuation of both domesticated and wild animal species through responsible management; and

WHEREAS, the domestication of animals has resulted in a symbiotic relationship of inestimable benefit to both humans and animals; and

WHEREAS, the sustained and controlled harvest of meat and furbearing animals in the wild helps to maintain essential environmental balance and ensures the existence of species and the ecosystem; and

WHEREAS, the members of the veal industry share worldwide concern for the environment; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED that Veal USA endorses the following statement of environmental principles:

We support international treaties and laws which prohibit traffic in endangered species.

We pledge adherence to industry standards for the humane care of veal calves on farms.

We endorse the use of systems for raising and harvesting animals which are appropriate, selective, efficient and safe to use, and which minimize injury and/or stress to the animal.

We endorse the use of renewable resources over nonrenewable resources wherever such alternatives exist.

We support efforts to ensure clean air and water in a natural environment capable of sustaining future generations of human and animal life.
